Fort San Lorenzo
Early Spanish history places the construction of this fort around the mid 1500's.  During the reign of Philp II.   Early in the exploration of Panama, the Spanish found this to be a key location in guarding the water ways of the Chagres River.  The control of the Fort fell back and forth between Spain and England for over 100 years.  The Fort Ruins, seen today, are the remains of the second re-building of the Fort.    It is said that from this Fort, Sir Henry Morgan made his plans to invade Old Panama City.  It wasn't until the building of the Panama Rail Road that Fort San Lorenzo was once again re-discovered.  It is now part of  Panamas National Parks.
